MEC FOR TRANSPORT AND COMMUNITY SAFETY AND LIMPOPO PROVINCIAL COMMISSIONER LEAD A JOINT HANDOVER OF SCHOOL UNIFORMS AND FOOD PARCELS TO FLOOD-AFFECTED COMMUNITIES IN MOPANI DISTRICT

POLOKWANE: The MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Ms Violet Mathye, together with the Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, led a joint handover of school uniforms and food parcels in Giyani and Bolobedu policing areas, Mopani District, on Friday, 13 February 2026.

This initiative forms part of ongoing government interventions aimed at restoring dignity and providing relief to learners and families affected by recent floods in the province.

As part of the programme, school uniforms were distributed to learners at Nyiko Primary School and Masiza Secondary School in Mbaula Village. A total of 83 uniform packs were handed over at Nyiko Primary School, while 27 learners at Masiza Secondary School also benefitted. Food parcels were further distributed to identified families at the New Creation Tabernacle of Grace (NITC) Church in Bellevue Village in Bolobedu policing area.

The event was attended by Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Support Services, Major General Fredrinah Sebola; Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Crime Detection, Major General Venitia Masingi; Mopani District Commissioner, Major General Willy Mashava; local traditional leader Ndavezitha Mthimkhulu; ward councillors; provincial heads; station commanders; SAPS members from various units including the SAPS Band, Womenโ€™s Network and Men for Change; Community Police Forum (CPF) members; learners; and other stakeholders.

Addressing the attendees, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe expressed appreciation to the MEC, traditional leadership, sponsors, the media and all stakeholders present.

โ€œ The South African Police Service together with social partners are committed to investing in your future. When we invest in education, we invest in a brighter tomorrow, one where you as learners can rise above circumstances, break barriers, and become the leaders of tomorrow,โ€ said Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe.

She encouraged learners to focus on their education, refrain from criminal activities and report any form of abuse or wrongdoing to the police and their teachers. In her conclusion, she reflected on her upbringing, motivated
learners to remain resilient and determined in pursuit of their dreams.

In her keynote address, MEC Violet Mathye commended the members of South African Police Service for its continued support to communities during and after the floods. She highlighted the importance of collaboration between government and communities and urges learners to work hard towards achieving their academic and career goals. She reminded them that success requires dedication and commitment.
