ZERO TOLERANCE, ZERO VICTIMS \u2013 LIMPOPO’S ROAD\u2011SAFETY MISSION<\/p>\n

The Limpopo Provincial Traffic Officers, together with other law\u2011enforcement agencies, concluded a decisive Phuza Weekend Operation from Friday\u202f14\u202fNovember to Sunday\u202f16\u202fNovember\u202f2025, resulting in the arrest of 26 drivers for driving under the influence of alcohol across the province. The highest blood\u2011alcohol reading recorded was 1.07\u202fmg\/100\u202fml, taken from a driver apprehended in the Vhembe District, a stark reminder that even a single drink can push a motorist beyond the legal limit and dramatically impair judgment, reaction time and coordination.<\/p>\n

In accepting the official custodian-handover report and the newly launched Limpopo Road Safety Strategy (LRSS)\u202f2026\u20112035 and the accompanying Limpopo Road Safety Action Plan (LRSAP) today in Polokwane, MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Ms\u202fViolet\u202fMathye, committed the Department to continue working with all relevant stakeholders to transition into the next steps \u2013 the implementation of the action plan. \u201cRoad safety is everyone\u2019s responsibility,\u201d she said, \u201cand alone the department will not be able to achieve Vision\u202fZero.\u201d<\/p>\n

The strategy, commissioned by the Anglo\u2011American Foundation and drafted by Impact Catalyst, envisions a future with no deaths or serious injuries on Limpopo\u2019s roads. The Phuza Weekend crackdown is a tangible step toward that vision, sending an unequivocal message that drunk driving will not be tolerated.<\/p>\n

We call on every motorist to make the responsible choice: plan ahead, use a designated driver, or rely on public transport or ride\u2011share services when alcohol is involved. By keeping our roads free of impaired drivers, we protect our families, our neighbours and ourselves. Let us unite in this commitment \u2013 because every kilometre travelled sober is a step closer to achieving Vision\u202fZero for Limpopo. Drive responsibly; the lives you save may be your own.<\/p>\n
