As we embark on the Easter weekend, I am reminded of the critical importance of road safety, not just for the general public, but also for our own government fleet. As the Head of Department of Transport and Community Safety, I am compelled to emphasize that our government vehicles must lead by example and adhere to the highest standards of roadworthiness.<\/p>\n

The recent Road Safety Campaign, “It begins with me,” is not just a slogan; it’s a call to action for all of us to take responsibility for our actions on the road. As custodians of government fleet, we have a duty to ensure that our vehicles are compliant with road safety regulations and are not a hazard to ourselves or others on the road.<\/p>\n

I am pleased to report that our department, in collaboration with various provincial departments, has commenced its annual fleet inspection for the 2025\/2026 financial year in Seshego. This exercise is a critical component of our efforts to enforce compliance, prevent the misuse of government vehicles, and ensure that our provincial asset register remains accurate and up to date.<\/p>\n

Our inspectors are conducting detailed checks on license disc validity, odometer readings, and overall roadworthiness, among other things. Vehicles found to be non-compliant or in poor condition are immediately detained, while those requiring minor repairs are referred to designated garages for maintenance.<\/p>\n

I want to emphasize that this is not just about ticking boxes; it’s about ensuring that our government fleet is safe, reliable, and efficient. As law enforcement officers embark on their daily duties, I expect them to do so in vehicles that meet the highest standards of roadworthiness.<\/p>\n

To all government officials, I say: let’s lead by example. Let’s ensure that our vehicles are compliant, and let’s report any instances of misuse or non-compliance. Together, we can make a difference and ensure that our roads are safer for everyone.<\/p>\n

The road safety campaign “It begins with me” starts with us, and I urge all government officials to take ownership of their actions and ensure that our government fleet is roadworthy. Let’s work together to make Limpopo’s roads safer for all.<\/p>\n
