MEC Mathye Meets with Taxi Associations

Polokwane, 24 April 2025 – The Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Transport and Community Safety, Mme Violet Mathye, today held a crucial meeting with representatives from the National Taxi Alliance (NTA) and the South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) at Phamoko Towers in Polokwane.

The meeting, which was attended by HOD Steven Matjena, focused on addressing pressing issues affecting the taxi industry, including accidents caused by tyre bursts and unroadworthy vehicles, as well as the harassment of the public by taxi patrols.

Both the taxi associations and the Department of Transport and Community Safety agree that these practices are unacceptable and need to be corrected. The meeting marked a significant step towards harmonizing the relationship between the public, government, and the taxi industry.
