UNITING FOR JUSTICE – CASE CLOSED
The Civilian Secretariat for Police Service (CSPS) today unveiled a bold new initiative: the Case Closed Campaign. Designed to shine a light on investigations that have languished in the shadows or been closed without satisfactory resolution, the campaign brings together three of South Africa’s most populous provinces—Limpopo, the Northwest and Gauteng—under one roof at the historic Mandela Hall in Hammanskraal.
The choice of venue carries a powerful message. Just a short drive away stands the Themba police station, once ranked the nation’s top precinct for gender‑based violence (GBV) and now firmly placed among the country’s top thirty. Its presence serves as a stark reminder that, despite progress, much work remains to protect the vulnerable and hold perpetrators accountable.
As the nation gears up for the 16 Days of Activism against GBV and moves toward a safer, more hopeful Christmas season, communities have responded with an outpouring of courage. A surprising number of previously hidden cases have emerged, revealing deep scars and, equally, a resilient determination to seek justice.
The CSPS is committed to correcting the irregularities that have plagued criminal case management, ensuring every file is reviewed with rigor, transparency and respect for the victims. By restoring confidence in the system, the Secretariat aims to deliver the closure that countless South Africans have been denied for far too long.
Justice is a collective responsibility,” said the CSPS spokesperson at the launch. “When we stand together—across provinces, across sectors, across society—we can turn the tide against impunity and build a safer, more just nation where every voice is heard and every case is treated with the dignity it deserves.
The Case Closed Campaign is more than a pledge; it is a call to action. Communities, civil society, law‑enforcement agencies and policymakers are urged to join forces, share information, and demand accountability. Together we can rewrite the narrative, close the gaps in our justice system, and forge a future where no case is left in the dark.
