DTCS INTERNATIONAL DAY OF ELDERLY PEOPLE 2025

MEC Violet Mathye took the stage at the Department of Transport and Community Safety’s celebration of the International Day of Older Persons, surrounded by a room full of golden boys and girls. The atmosphere was filled with warmth and nostalgia, at Head Office in Polokwane, as the MEC addressed the group, accompanied by HOD Steven Matjena. The event featured insightful presentations on resignation, retirement, financial management, health, and the importance of planning for the future.

MEC Mathye’s words were a gentle breeze on a summer day, encouraging the retirees to embrace this new chapter. “This is not the time to go home and start fights with your spouses,” she said with a smile, “but to go and reflect on the journey undertaken, and to bond with your loved ones.” Her message was clear: retirement is a time to reap the rewards of years of hard work, to rest, and to cherish the moments with family and friends. The MEC and HoD expressed heartfelt gratitude for the contributions the older persons had made to the department and government, acknowledging their dedication and service.
