The Limpopo Public Transport Integration Committee gathered for its usual meeting at the DTCS Head Office in Polokwane and left with a glimpse of what comes next.

Following a recent visit to their offices in Centurion, contracted partner Calmex Mobile returned to present the vision for the Intelligent Transport System to the committee and the municipalities it represents. The committee, central to restructuring bus subsidies, is steering the shift from fragmented operations toward an integrated, efficient network.

The plan is straightforward and modern, travel rights will be managed securely in a cloud back office rather than on a physical card. Passengers will tap to pay with what they already carry — a bank card, mobile phone, or smart card — and the system will calculate the best fare after travel is complete.

The committee appreciates the initiative of the department as a move toward a transport system that meets people where they are: simpler at the point of use, smarter behind the scenes, and built to connect Limpopo’s communities with less friction and more ease.
