As a proud daughter of Xihoko, I was humbled to return to my roots and host a Community Imbizo under the esteemed Hosi Nyavani Traditional Council. I was invited by Hosi Nyavani himself to come and listen to the concerns of his subjects, and I am grateful for the opportunity to engage with my community.
The Imbizo was a resounding success, with community members from surrounding villages seizing the opportunity to raise their concerns directly with me and departmental leadership. As the MEC for Transport and Community Safety, I outlined the roles and responsibilities of my department, and we listened attentively to the issues affecting our people.
The concerns raised were varied and pressing: damaged roads, lack of bridges, water shortages, public transport operating permits, GBV, alleged mistreatment by police officers, and the scourge of crystal meth among learners. We also heard about the shortage of police vehicles, which hampers our ability to respond swiftly to crime.
I want to assure the community that we are committed to listening and working together to address these challenges. While some issues fall outside our department’s mandate, I have committed to engaging the relevant authorities to ensure they are addressed. I am grateful to Hosi Nyavani for his invitation and for the respect he has shown our government. His leadership and wisdom are an inspiration to us all.
As a leader, I believe that listening is key to effective governance. I am proud to be part of a government that values the voices of its people, and I am committed to continuing this approach as we work together to build a safer, more prosperous Limpopo.
Nkamethele!
