Polokwane – The Head of Department, Stephen Matjena, on behalf of the Department of Transport and Community Safety, officiated at a send-off session for athletes who will carry the
department’s colours at the Comrades Marathon in Durban on 14 June 2026. While the HOD undertook to address the sponsorship matter, the runners appreciated the send-off gesture and the weekly sports day support every Wednesday. They thanked the department for investing in their journey and promised HOD Matjena they would return with medals.
The HOD shared messages of encouragement, well wishes, and appreciation for their hard work. He reminded them that qualifying for the race is already a victory, proof of discipline and heart. As they embark on this extraordinary journey, he urged them to remember they are champions for committing to such a demanding test of endurance and character. Whether they chase personal bests, cross the finish line, or compete for victory, their resilience and spirit inspire all of us in the department.
“Run safely, run proudly and give your very best. We celebrate your commitment and wish you strength, endurance and success throughout the race. Go and bring home those medals,” said HoD Matjena. Through programmes like this, the Department of Transport and Community Safety demonstrates its commitment to employee health and wellbeing. Supporting our runners affirms that a healthy team is a stronger team, on the road and in service.
