The Department of Transport and Community Safety, through its Police Conduct and Compliance Directorate within the PSPS, together with SAPS provincial HRD, facilitated a DVA Capacity Building work session at the Association for People with Disability Hall (ABD) in Polokwane.
The session brought together SAPS Relief Commanders and DVA Coordinators to deepen understanding and strengthen compliance with the National Instructions on the Domestic Violence Act. Members were taken through key non-compliance findings identified during PSPS inspections and oversight visits to SAPS stations across Limpopo. The focus was practical: correct recording in the SAPS 508(a), SAPS 508(b), SAPS 206 and SAPS 10 registers, and adherence to the Domestic Violence Amendment Act No. 7 of 1999. Each procedure was unpacked not as paperwork, but as a lifeline that ensures victims are heard, protected, and served with dignity.
The room moved from presentation to conversation and in that exchange the bottlenecks began to clear. Officers spoke openly about challenges in the field, and together with PSPS officials they mapped solutions that turn policy into practice. The engagement created space for reflection, correction, and commitment to improvement.
As the Department continues this work, it answers the call made by our State President, who declared GBVF a national disaster, reasserting that protecting the vulnerable and upholding the law is not an option, but a duty we carry together.
