Polokwane – The SAPS has officially announced the appointment of Lieutenant General Jan Petrus Scheepers as the new Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo, effective 1st August 2026. The announcement was made by Acting National Commissioner, Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane at the Premier’s Office in Polokwane.
Welcoming the appointment, MEC Violet Mathye said, “The appointment of Lieutenant General Jan Scheepers marks an important step in strengthening policing and community safety in Limpopo. We look forward to working closely with him to enhance crime prevention initiatives, improve public safety and build safer communities across the province.”
According to Limpopo Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba, “The fight against Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) must remain a provincial priority.” She called on all stakeholders to work together to create safer communities and protect the rights and dignity of women and children.
Acting National Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane described Lieutenant General Jan Scheepers as an accomplished policing professional whose exceptional leadership and extensive operational experience make him well suited to lead the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Limpopo.
