By Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety Communications Services Team

Today at the Limpopo Provincial Legislature in Lebowakgomo, MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Ms. Violet Mathye, delivered a budget vote that puts people first.

This is not just about numbers on a spreadsheet. It’s about shorter queues at licensing centres, safer roads for our children, reliable buses for rural communities, and jobs for young people who want to serve their communities. It’s about accountability, delivery, and hope.

Here are 8 highlights that show where we’re heading in 2026/27:

A Record Budget to Deliver More
The Department has been allocated R3.1 billion for the 2026/27 financial year — a 5.4% increase from last year. This means more resources to fix what’s broken, strengthen what works, and reach communities that have waited too long.

Clean Governance That You Can Trust
We achieved a Clean Audit Outcome. That’s proof that every rand is being managed with transparency and accountability. Public money belongs to the people, and we are committed to spending it where it matters most.

Keeping Public Transport Affordable
R954.1 million has been set aside for Bus Subsidy Services. This protects thousands of learners, workers, and pensioners in rural areas from unaffordable fares. A reliable, affordable bus service is a lifeline for economic participation.

More Eyes on the Road, 24/7
Road safety cannot take a break. We’ve allocated R44.5 million for a 24/7 Law Enforcement Shift System and are recruiting and training 154 Young Traffic Learners. More boots on the ground means faster response, stronger visibility, and fewer lives lost on our roads.

No More Long Queues at Licensing Centres
We’re nearing completion of two new K53 Testing Centres in Seshego and Thohoyandou. The goal is simple: cut the queues, reduce frustration, and make licensing services faster and more dignified for every citizen.

Building Infrastructure That Works
Strategic investments are underway:
R38 million to complete the Thohoyandou Taxi Rank Facility
R65 million for an Electronic Vehicle Monitoring System to track and manage our fleet better
R58.5 million for the Government Fleet Replacement Project
This is infrastructure that improves service delivery and creates jobs.

Safety and Jobs Go Hand in Hand
Through the Expanded Public Works Programme, R34.1 million will support 400 Youth Civilians on Patrol (YCOP) and 775 Community Policing Forums (CPFs). Young people get work experience and income, while communities get stronger partnerships in the fight against crime and gender-based violence.

Aiming Higher on Revenue
After collecting R988 million last year, we’ve set a target of R1 billion for this year. Every cent collected goes back into services that benefit you — better roads, safer communities, and improved transport.

MEC Violet Mathye put it clearly: this budget is about “prioritizing child safety, reliable public transport, road safety, and the fight against gender-based violence.”

It’s about fixing potholes, building homes, protecting children, and keeping communities safe. It’s accountability in action.

We know there is still work to do. But with this budget, we have a clear plan and the resources to deliver.

To every learner walking to school, every worker catching an early bus, every parent worried about road safety — this budget is for you.

Be informed. Be involved. Because this budget is for you.
