Mohlaletse – MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Violet Mathye, today led a 67 minutes service at Mohlaletse Disabled Group Centre in the Sekhukhune District as part of Mandela Day commemorations.
The MEC was accompanied by the Acting Sekhukhune District Mayor, Cllr. Maria Mashego, the Acting Fetakgomo-Tubatse Local Municipality Mayor, Cllr. Kanana Leokana and senior management from the department.
The department donated essential items to the centre and its beneficiaries. Donations included sanitary towels, toiletries, non-perishable food items, old clothes, blankets, and jojo-tank. Blankets were also handed over directly to members of the disabled groups at the centre.
In support of food security and sustainability, the MEC also donated vegetable seedling trays of cabbage, spinach, and tomatoes for planting, as well as cleaning materials.
“We must treat persons with disabilities with dignity, respect, and compassion. They are equal members of society who deserve the same love, care, opportunities, and respect we all expect. Let us celebrate this day together, and give where we can,” said MEC Violet Mathye addressingthe beneficiaries.
The Chairperson of Mohlaletsi Disabled Group Centre, Albert Morewane, also expressed gratitude,
“Today’s event went smoothly as we honoured Mandela. We thank the Department of Transport and Community Safety for their support. Beyond the gifts they brought, their words of motivation inspired us, and we appreciate their commitment to walk with us again in future,” said Morewane.
The event formed part of the provincial government’s broader Mandela Day programme to support centres caring for persons with disabilities.
